Gothenburg RoRo Terminal increased cargo throughput by five per cent in the first half of 2026, as investments in terminal capacity, rail connections and quay infrastructure strengthened its operations.

Port of Gothenburg RoRo Terminal volumes rise 5 per cent
Located at the Port of Gothenburg, the terminal handles rolling cargo on frequent sailings connecting Sweden with freight hubs in the UK and Central Europe. Its cargo mix includes food, forest products, steel, electronics and components for the automotive and engineering industries.
Over the past three years, upgrades have included expanded terminal areas, additional rail tracks, new cross-docking facilities and improvements to accommodate larger vessels. The developments are intended to improve operational efficiency and support more sustainable freight movements.
Jacob Minnhagen, Senior Market Development Manager at the Port of Gothenburg, said: “Gothenburg RoRo Terminal has taken major steps forward and is very well equipped for continued growth. Upgrades to quays, rail connections, terminal areas and equipment have further strengthened efficiency. The rapid pace of development means there really is a ‘2.0’ feel to the terminal as a whole.”
Investment comes amid growing interest in intra-European shipping, as geopolitical uncertainty, tariff disputes and supply chain disruptions prompt companies to seek more predictable regional transport options. RoRo and short sea shipping can also provide alternatives to congested inland transport corridors.
Maria Franksen, CEO of Gothenburg RoRo Terminal, stated: “We have taken a focused, long-term approach to developing the terminal’s capacity, quality and efficiency. The volume growth is a positive indication that this work is paying off. But we will not be complacent. We continue to improve and adapt our operations to meet the current and future needs of Swedish industry.”
