The Klaipėda State Seaport Authority has launched the procurement process for contractors under the first phase of its southern port development project.

Klaipėda Port launches first phase of southern expansion
The selected contractor will construct the southern port gates, marking the initial stage of what is set to become the largest project in the port’s history.
Algis Latakas, Director General of the Klaipėda State Seaport Authority, said: “For several years now, we have consistently highlighted both the need and the importance of developing the southern part of the port. By announcing this first-stage tender, we are taking a tangible step toward the start of the largest project in the history of the Port of Klaipėda. We plan to begin actual construction works already this year.”
The southern gates complex will eventually include a marina and a quay, with breakwaters designed to protect the environment.
The project will reclaim approximately 100 hectares of new port territory and build 1.3 kilometres of new quays, unlocking space for new terminals and allowing the port to accommodate the world’s largest vessels.
In January, a Lithuanian delegation visited Spain to strengthen the Port of Klaipėda’s international links by expanding cooperation with the Port of Valencia.
