The Port of Rønne has expanded its offshore capabilities with new quay infrastructure and advanced ShibataFenderTeam fender systems, strengthening its role as a key Baltic hub for wind energy logistics.
Port of Rønne expands offshore wind capabilities
Located on the Danish island of Bornholm, the Port of Rønne plays a central role in supporting offshore wind projects across the Baltic Sea.
Phase 3 of the port’s future-proofing project, closely aligned with a broader climate and infrastructure strategy, began in late 2023. This phase added over 100,000 square metres (m²) of project space, a 280-metre quay, and a new RoRo ramp, among other upgrades.
The new facilities further strengthen the port’s growing importance as a logistics hub for wind turbine shipments and offshore activity in the region.
SFT was once again selected to collaborate with the contractor MT Højgaard, continuing a partnership built over previous development phases at the Port of Rønne.
The delivery prominently featured 24 Element Fenders (FE 1250×1000 mm, G2.4) with closed-box steel panels measuring 2250 × 2850 millimetres (mm). The project scope also included 10 steel ladders and 28 T-head bollards, 24 of them with 125t mooring capacity and four with a capacity of 200t.
Faced with high demands on design, performance, testing, and rubber quality, our in-house engineering team designed the Element Fender systems to fully meet all requirements.
The final solution included tension chains to control deflection, ensuring efficient energy absorption, durability, and structural integrity during berthing impacts.
Last month, ShibataFenderTeam opened its fourth manufacturing facility in Valencia, Spain, to double production capacity for foam fenders and steel works.
