InductEV, a wireless EV charging organisation, has joined the Zero Emissions Port Alliance (ZEPA).

This membership aims to expedite port decarbonisation and make battery-electric container handling equipment (BE-CHE) more cost-effective and accessible.

According to ZEPA, up to 120,000 container handling equipment units that emit 10-15 million tonnes of CO2e per year must be decarbonised.

Following successful deployments with municipal transit agencies in North America and Europe, InductEV’s wireless charging solution for commercial fleets is now operational at APM Terminals (APMT) in Port Elizabeth, New Jersey, and will soon be installed at a major port facility on the US West Coast.

In addition to its environmental benefits, the company’s wireless on-route EV charging technology reportedly provides significant economic benefits to fleet owners and port operators through increased fleet utilisation and lower CapEx expenses.

James Wroe, InductEV’s Managing Director for Europe, Asia, and the Middle East and a long-time port industry executive, said: “We embrace the mission of ZEPA and share in its members’ vision for the electric future of the 940 container ports around the world.”

In June, ZEPA announced the onboarding of 11 organisations from the container port industry.
