ACE Terminal, Cepsa sign green deal

ACE Terminal and Spanish oil and gas group, Cepsa, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to create the green hydrogen supply chain from Spain to the Netherlands.

ACE Terminal, Cepsa sign green deal

Cepsa will supply green ammonia to the ACE import terminal in the Port of Rotterdam.

The MoU with Cepsa is the first of several agreements that ACE will sign for the import of green hydrogen and ammonia to build the biggest green ammonia import terminal in Europe.

The agreement is expected to strengthen the green hydrogen corridor between the north and south of Europe.

Speaking on this MoU, Minister for Climate and Energy, Netherlands, Rob Jetten, said: “It constitutes a significant milestone for the European Hydrogen Strategy in developing hydrogen corridors between south and north Europe.

“This will enable us to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and to achieve the Dutch decarbonisation and climate goals,” Jetten added.

The green ammonia can be utilised for industrial purposes after being converted back into hydrogen, or it can be directly used in the shipping and other industries of Northwest Europe.

The ACE Terminal will be built on the Maasvlakte in the Port of Rotterdam.

This deal comes less than a week after the Port of Rotterdam Authority, Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE), and the Australian government teamed up to develop a joint hydrogen hub in Western Australia.
